New 2007 Air Route For Malta

The airline that first brought low cost airlines to Malta has done well enough to start new routes to the island.

Ryanair, the Irish based low cost airline, were the first airline to win the right to fly to Malta from the island's main markets for tourism of Ireland and the UK. The first route launched has been running between London's Luton Airport since November, while the Dublin route had its inaugural flight in March. Both routes have attracted good seat occupancy levels, with tourist numbers in Malta rising.

The new route will run between Bremen in Germany to Malta and will be a welcome addition for Malta's attempt to attract more German tourists to the island.

Operating three times a week, it is hoped that the first flights will begin in September. Before the new flights began last November, estimates suggested that the low cost airline could add an extra 80,000 tourists to the island in 2007, but this figure has been radically upgraded to double that.

Malta's slow pace of life might have contributed to the late introduction of low cost flights compared to her competitors, or it could have been politicians and the tourist authorities more interested in protecting the island's national airline with attitudes that the rest of Europe began to shrug off in the 80's, but whatever the reason, now that Malta has allowed the low cost airlines, they can't get enough of them.

The number of visitors to Malta is up nearly ten per cent this year, thanks mainly to the extra arrivals being delivered by the low cost airlines. And the extra holiday makers couldn't have come at a better time as the island has seen steadily decreasing tourists numbers in recent years - the ultimate factor in the decision to allow the flights in.

I receive many emails from sales people who are having basically the same problem. Repeatedly I hear the same story. It goes something like this: "I get the appointment with the prospect, the meeting seems to go well, however, I can't close the sale".

When I answer the email or speak with them on the phone, I find they are all making the same mistakes. They are common mistakes with the majority of sales people, so if you are one of them, you are not alone.

So, what mistakes are they making? I can sum all these mistakes up by saying, they are skipping steps in the sales process. They have not prepared themselves to have the best opportunity to make the sale and then they blame the prospect for not buying

How can you overcome these mistakes?

First, accept responsibility for not closing the sale. If you walk out without the sale, you did something wrong. I know it's easier to blame the prospect, however, the prospect is not at fault, you are.

At some point during the process, you didn't do your job!

Don't close the sale, assume the sale. By assuming the sale you are putting your self in the strongest possible selling position. When you assume the sale, you believe you will make every sale you attempt.

It's simple, however, it's not easy. It takes a lot of work both before and during the sale.

The Effects of Volatility on the Time Spread When Trading Options

When purchasing a time spread, the investor should pay attention not only to the movement of the stock price but especially to the movement of volatility.

Volatility plays a very large roll in the price of a time spread and, as we have stated, the time spread is an excellent way to take advantage of anticipated volatility movements in a hedged fashion.

Since the time spread is composed of two options, the investor should understand the role of volatility in options as well as in time spreads. Let's start with option volatility.

An option's volatility component is measured by a term called vega. Vega, one of the components of the pricing model, measures how much an option's price will change with a one point (or tick) change in implied volatility. Based on present data, the pricing model assigns the vega for each option at different strikes, different months and different prices of the stock.

Vega is always given in dollars per one tick volatility change. If an option is worth $1.00 at a 35 implied volatility and it has a .05 vega, then the option will be worth $1.05 if implied volatility were to increase to 36 (up one tick) and $.95 if the implied volatility were to decrease to 34 (down one tick). Remember, vega is given in dollars per one tick volatility change.

As we continue to discuss vega, keep these facts in mind

1. Vega measures how much an option price will change as volatility changes.

2. Vega increases as you look at future months and decreases as you approach expiration.

3. Vega is highest in the at the money options.

Although increasing, they do not progress in a linear manner. When you check the same strike price out over future months you will notice that vega values increase as you move out over future months.

Meanwhile, money management difficulties could be even more pronounced for the 16 per cent of people who state that they can retire on 50,000 pounds or under. Should such consumers choose to get an annuity for this figure - it was suggested that the most money they would be able to get from it would be 3,568 pounds per year - about 304 pounds each month. Consequently, such a figure may see them develop difficulties in paying for utility bills and food, in addition to making repayments on personal loans, overdrafts, credit cards and other types of borrowing.

Reza Attar-Zadeh, head of savings for the financial services firm, commented: "Clearly Brits are not saving enough for their retirement. Indeed the seasons are changing, no one can argue that the snow is coming later, but few will realise that it is also staying for much longer. We are seeing some of the best snow arriving mid to late march, and lasting well into April and May. Maybe skiers need to start changing their habits for their annual ski holidays?

From my own observations over the 20 years that I have been immersed in the industry, the snow has not degraded over the past two decades; it has simply chosen to start coming later on. But not so late that it has wiped out the traditional and favoured time of year to go skiing, which is of course Christmas.

Ten years ago the temperatures would drop in late October and the first snow would arrive in late November. A base layer would have formed by the first week in December, allowing skiers to enjoy cold, dry snow from early December on.

In those days Easter skiing was a luxury only afforded by those who could justify the expense of an elite "high altitude" destination such as Tignes and Val d'isere. Snow around the rest of Europe did not last much beyond the end of March.

Easter is a different kettle of fish nowadays. The temperatures are remaining cold and the snow is falling heavier than ever during the first two weeks of April. Last year I enjoyed one of the best ski holidays I have had in 23 years up in Les Arcs 2000 over the 25th of April.

Early season however was not so great. In the past few years, the ground has not been reaching it's critical level of freezing until early December, which wipes out the relevance of any late November snow flurries that excite the press in the UK and encourage early season skiers to hit the mountains with such aplomb.

Above 1500m we are seeing bases form by mid December, which means that unlike times past, the Christmas week is now the first really decent week of the season for ski holidays.

But let's not forget times past. A look at the history books will tell you that we have seen all this before. I have spoken with countless locals during my time in France who have lived for much of the last century in these alpine farming villages; villages that have now become major ski resorts.

These locals are not worried at all. They have seen it all before: "Snow comes and goes in cycles", they say. "You get the good years and the bad years".

In 1988 the consistency of snow was so flaky (excuse the pun) that only one run on the famous Arare in Avoriaz was open all season. Meribel was not skiing at all below 2000 metres, and Courchevel was in a similar pickle. This of course was before the age of snow cannons, and skiers were had to take off their skis and walk the rest of the grassy slope down from1850 metres.

But the resort locals are not ignorant of the effects of the British press sounding off about changing seasons. Nor their dependency on the great British skiing public for their livelihood. They also realise that British skiers are traditionalists and Christmas week is our favourite time of year to ski.

They are fighting back with snow cannons, learning new ways of producing fake snow, even experimenting with bacteria that will crystalise in plus degrees Celsius.
Their techniques of "pisting" the mountain are evolving to cope with the demand in Christmas ski holidays. Piste bashers (tractors that shovel snow) are working all night to store snow at altitude where it will last the season before being used on the lower slopes.

They are keeping their pistes in better condition and spending their summers preparing the ground to hold the base layer more effectively in those early winter weeks. In sub 1500 metre resorts, slope preparation is becoming an art in order to retain their piece of the demand for those Christmas ski holidays?

When I practiced full time as a clinical hypnotherapist, a man came into my office wanting to lose a lot of weight. He introduced himself as Jim. He looked beaten down. His shirt missed a couple buttons, and I saw tangles throughout his oily, shoulder length hair. He still had morning breath at 2:15 PM.

Jim explained to me that he had already undergone a quadruple bypass, and his doctor said that if the weight didn't go he would die soon. He was also scheduled for his third knee surgery the following week.

He told me about all the weight loss programs that had failed him. He read every book ever published on weight loss. He probably knew more about losing weight than most personal trainers and weight loss advisors.

Still, there he sat, all 300-plus pounds of him. Even though his life literally depended on it, he was unable to keep off the weight. All his knowledge of caloric intake and how much activity it takes to burn a pound of fat didn't help him one bit. Jim was dying.

He viewed coming to see me as a last ditch effort to save his life. He didn't believe in hypnosis, he said, but he'd stopped believing in almost everything else, too. There was nothing left for him to try.

Because of his opinion on hypnosis, I used that tool very sparingly. Instead, I focused on getting him to open up, which he did. I learned that not only did Jim have poor eating habits, almost every habit in his life, it turned out, affected him in a bad way.

Our work together lasted about 8 weeks. We focused on making very small changes to Jim's daily routines. We interrupted his patterns and created new habits. Instead of pizza 4 nights a week, he would only have it 3. Rather than sleeping 12 hours, he'd sleep 10.

By the end of the 8th week, Jim had not lost a pound. He did, however, learn how to create new, healthier habits. He learned he was not a slave, chained to his comfort zone, and that by incorporating the habits he had learned into his life, these became his new comfort zone.

The last time I saw Jim, he caught me off guard. We were at an art gallery. He walked up, shook my hand, and started laughing. "I get that a lot," he said, seeing the puzzled look on my face. I almost cried when I recognized the man before me.

I've heard it said that the difference beween successful people and unsuccessful people are their habits. Nowhere is this more true than in network marketing. When we talk about habits, we usually refer to bad habits. We build habits by repeating action. This action, however, can be bad or good, helpful or hurtful.

To hear some people talk, you would think that habits just happen without our control. Did you ever try to break a habit? It can be a difficult and painful thing to do, but with a strong enough commitment, it can be done.

If habits are so powerful, imagine creating a beneficial habit, like a new work habit. How would it be if your prospecting tasks became automatic, like brushing your teeth? Consistency is the hallmark of a stable person. Habits create this consistency.

How do you create a habit? One word: Repetition. Repetition is the mother of all skill. If you repeat an action every day for 30 days, you create a habit. This is true whether your goal is exercise, business, or personal.

To be truly effective, start small. Instead of vowing to call 10 prospects a day, start with 1. If you can't dedicate 3 hours a day to your business right now, start with 15 minutes. Small, consistent steps over time create huge, long-lasting results.

You must develop confidence as your primary habit. Without knowing that you have something of value to provide your customers and business associates, everything else falls flat. If you don't believe in yourself, nobody else will, either.

You develop confidence with small, private victories. If you commit to contacting 1 prospect a day, and keep that commitment, your confidence grows. If you increase that to 2 a day, it gets even stronger.

Discipline also ranks high on any list of habits. Discipline simply means the ability to get necessary actions done. It means taking the steps, regardless of how you feel or what's going on in your life, to insure that you will be successful.

In the US Army, my drill instructors pounded discipline into my skull. Being sick was irrelevant, because the enemy wouldn't care if you were sick or not. They'd just kill you. The same if you were tired, or just found out your wife was leaving you (this happened to a few guys in my platoon).

You could cry all you wanted, but the drill instructors knew the ingredients of success. Whether that success happens on the battlefield or while working on your business, you still need the same habits. Rain or shine, you simply must take action.

Drill sergeants also taught me motivation. Motivation is very similar to discipline, only it require more emotional input. To exercise discipline, you need a certain amount of motivation. Believe me, when you're cold and wet, you need motivation to climb the muddy hill in front of you.

An enemy chasing you would provide such needed motivation. For me, it was a drill sergeant with biceps big around as my waist, yelling at me. I would probably have done anything this person told me to do.

As scary as my Army experience was, today I hear my own inner drill sergeant yelling, "You better make them calls, you airhead!" It still motivates me today, even though I'm warm and dry.

You maintain motivation by reminding yourself why you do what you do. For me, motivational cd's do the trick, especially while I'm driving. I also read books on success and self improvement. Ten to twenty minutes a day is all it takes.

Your habits determine where you're going. Take some time now, right now, as you read these words, and examine your habits. What do you habitually do every day? If you do what you've always done, you'll get what you've always gotten. Is that satisfactory to you?

Bob Hope: The Icon of Classic Television

Im so old, theyve canceled my blood type quipped Bob Hope, upon reaching the age of 100 in July 2003. Indeed, Bob Hope has been around throughout the 20th century, becoming immortal to so many generations by entertaining the masses with countless films, TV and radio shows and of course his appearances with the troops overseas.

Bob Hope was born on May 29, 1903 in Eltham, England although his family moved to Cleveland, Ohio when he was four years old (I left England at the age of four when I found out I couldnt be king). His first modest success in show business came in 1915 when he won a Charlie Chaplin imitation competition.

He began to work in vaudeville in the early 1920s and during the early 1930s was appearing on the stage in Broadway. His first film role was The Big Broadcast in 1938 in which he sang the song Thanks for the Memory in a duet with Shirley Ross. That song would become Bob Hopes signature tune.

Bob Hope appeared in over 75 films throughout his career although he only won two honorary Oscars. He even joked about his lack of Oscar awards - Oscar night at our house is called Passover! He may not have won many Oscars but he enjoyed bringing his unique humor to the awards ceremony he presented or co-presented them on a record 18 occasions up until 1977.

His most famous movies, of course remain the series of road movies that he made with Bing Crosby during the 1940s. He also starred in The Paleface along with Jane Russell which many consider his best film. Today, many of his classic movies are available on DVD or regularly shown on cable TV channels.

Hope took to TV fairly late in his career, not entirely convinced that the still fairly new medium would succeed. Television thats where movies go when they die, quipped Hope once. However, it was television that really made Bob Hope a star and a household name throughout the United States.

Easter Sunday 1950 was a memorable day. It was on that day that Bob Hope made his formal television debut. In addition to Hopes appearance, the Star Spangled Revue featured other popular entertainers and stars of the day including Dinah Shore and Douglas Fairbanks Jr.

The shows formula was immediately successful and Bob Hopes television shows remained successful for the next 40 years. NBC was his network of choice and Bob Hope appeared in many of the networks Christmas and other holiday specials. His last TV special was in 1996 appearing alongside Tony Danza. Today these programs are rightly considered classic TV shows, television programs that translate for multiple generations.

Perhaps Bob Hope is most famous for his appearances with the troops, a gesture that almost certainly boosted morale far more than any appearance by the president. His first such appearance was in May 1941, when Bob Hope, along with various friends, appeared at March Field in California to entertain the airmen.

The rest, as they say, is history. Bob Hope was soon christened G.I. Bob by the troops and went on to perform all over the world during the next 60 years. He has entertained troops and broadcast from Europe, the South Pacific, the Indian Ocean and the Persian Gulf. He nearly always appeared in army fatigues as a further gesture of support for the soldiers.

Bob Hope has been honored five times by the United States Congress, has been made honorary mayor of Palm Springs and an honorary veteran. He also has several theaters, a battleship and an airport named in his honor and his love of golf lives on in one of the sports major events the Bob Hope Classic.

But his biggest legacy is the wealth of entertainment he has given us over the years. And of course, his sharp wit; his one-liners and quotes are almost as well known as his TV shows and movies.
